Cost of Education & Accommodation in UK

Education in the UK is very expensive according to Indian standards and tuition fees may vary depending on the subject and the University you choose to study at. The academic environment ranges from £ 12,000 to £ 17,000 a year.

  • Compared to other UK cities, tuition and accommodation costs are high in London and South England.
  • Apart from tuition fees, a large portion of your total budget may be accommodation. Living in private areas can be more expensive compared to University hostels. Basic services and living expenses are much higher than in other countries.

Food £160 – £200 pounds monthly

  • Working part-time while studying may help you to manage your expenses. There are many opportunities available for a part-time job, internship, or placement during a summer or winter break.
  • UK Learning Route (Tire-4) allows students to work up to 20 hours a week, only if the student is studying at a graduate level and above.
  • Full-time employment is permitted only during the holidays.

Need for a UK Study Visa (Visa)

To obtain a UK Student Visa i.e. Tier 4 (General) Student Visa, students must comply with government eligibility requirements which include

  • Certification of Accreditation of Courses (CAS) from the relevant university.
  • Proof of tuition fees and monthly living expenses.
  • English language skills
  • Students also need to pay an additional health fee to access the UK National Health Service.
  • International students can submit their visa application online via the UK visa and the immigration website.


Post Study permit in the UK

According to a recent review by the British Council, from 1 Jul’21 international students who have completed UG or master’s degrees will be granted a two-year postgraduate work permit, and a PhD graduate may stay for three years after graduation.


Eligibility for the Graduation Route

  • An international student must have a valid student visa when applying for a Graduate Route.
  • The Graduation Route requires a new visa application.
  • International students should be aware of the Confirmation Acceptance for Studies (CAS) used for Student application i.e. Tier 4 to apply for the Graduate Route.
